International Women’s Sports Day: UFRESGA follows suit – AGP

Libreville, February 1, 2024 (AGP) – Women reporters, united within UFRESGA, celebrated, on Wednesday, the International Day dedicated to women’s sport, it was noted.

Established for January 24 each year, International Women’s Sports Day was celebrated on a delayed basis, this Wednesday, January 31 in Libreville, by the Union of Women Sports Reporters of Gabon, in the presence of several well-known names in Gabonese women’s sport. .

On the menu for this celebration: a conference, animated by debates and sharing of experiences around the theme, “Women’s sport: between inequalities and resilience”.

Invited to speak in his capacity as a specialist in sports issues, Ghislain Megne, from the outset, set the scene by highlighting the limits and inadequacies observed and of which women are victims in the Gabonese sporting environment. .

Following this presentation, there followed a series of stories shared by former Gabonese sportswomen. From the former president of the Gabonese Basketball Federation (FEGABAB), Sylvie Kota, to the president of the Douloures Athletic Handball club, Murielle Mayi, including the head of referees of the Estuaire Basketball League, Marva Obono Vita, each one shared her testimony and experience to edify the audience.

For her part, the president of UFRESGA, Raïssa Laure Mendza Me Ndong was satisfied with the effectiveness of this day, with the hope that the voices of women will be heard more in a predominantly male environment.

Likewise, she campaigned for clear support from the highest authorities of the transition in favor of women wishing to pursue a career in sport.
