This is what you call a “perfect match”. Manuela Zinsberger and Arsenal, that just fits together: Austria’s team goalkeeper extended her contract with the top English football club early on Friday. The third-placed team in the Women’s Super League (WSL) did not provide any information about the term of the new contract. The 28-year-old from Weinviertel has been guarding the Arsenal goal since her move from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2019, keeping 49 clean sheets in 113 appearances.
Lots of praise for the team goalkeeper
“Manu is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has performed consistently well during my time here. She deserves this new contract and I know she shares the ambitions we have here. We want to fight for every title and Manu will be one play a big role in us achieving that,” says Arsenal coach Jonas Eidevall. And Clare Wheatley, Director of Women’s Affairs at Arsenal, added: “Manu has been an incredibly important part of the team since 2019, showing fantastic performances and a real passion on the pitch.”
As with the national team, Zinsberger is the clear number one at Arsenal, where full-back Laura Wienroither (formerly SKN or Neulengbach) is another ÖFB team player under contract.
“I’m so motivated to develop as a goalie but also to grow as a person – and with the progress that has taken place here on and off the pitch since I’ve been here, I know this is the right place for me, to do that,” the ÖFB figurehead explains his decision.
