The International Jānis Baltvilks Prize is one of the central events in the field of literature every summer, and the brightest authors of children’s and young people’s literature and book artists will be celebrated this year as well. The award jury included literary critic Ilze Stikāne, literary critic and teacher Lita Silova, art historian and critic Aiga Dzalbe, art critic Ieva Lejasmeijere, as well as members of the public: director Kārlis Krūmiņš and children’s vocal groups. French writer Delfine de Vigan is recognized as the international winner of the Jānis Baltvilks Prize in 2021 as a novel Not a is (Jānis Rozes publishing house, 2021), as well as the translator of the work Inta Šmite. “The reader is emotionally sharp, sincere and aptly touched by the teenager’s heightened confidence and courage to implement their good will – to help a woman in difficulty.

- Vivianna Maria Stanislavska on illustrations for Dace Kravale’s literary tale Dorabellas istaba (Big and small, 2020);
- Mārtiņš Zutis on illustrations for Juris Zvirgzdiņš’s literary tale Captain’s horse (Big and small, 2020);
- Anita Rupeika on illustrations for Juris Zvirgzdiņš’s literary tale Tobias and the writer (Petergailis, 2020);

The winners in literature, book art and debut will be announced during a solemn event on Jānis Baltvilks’ birthday, July 24, at the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia. The main theme of the ceremony this year has been chosen as the main motive Planet book At a time of chaos on Earth, the world of literature has, more than ever, become a whole space to take refuge in, and every book is like a newly discovered planet. The drama and course of the ceremony will be directed by Ance Strazda and Klāvs Mellis. Solo songs for mezzo-soprano and accordion with poetry by Jānis Baltvilks will be premiered. The author of the songs is composer Madara Pētersone, while they will be performed by musicians Zane Rozenfelde and Māris Rozenfelds.
