The International Vaccination Center (CVI) of the Preventive Medicine service of the University Hospital of Guadalajara, dependent on the Castilla-La Mancha Health Service (SESCAM), has treated a total of 555 travelers in the first seven months of the year, a 18 percent more than in the same period of 2022, in which 470 users were served. These data support a progressive recovery in the number of travelers served, although a change in trends and in the profile of users is observed.
Thailand recovers its position as the favorite destination with 11 percent of user inquiries (last year it was Kenya, with 14 percent). Second place this year is occupied by the itinerary made up of Kenya and Tanzania (between 8 and 13 percent of queries), and Vietnam is in third position, with 6.5 percent. They are followed by Indonesia, Egypt and Colombia, each accounting for five percent of the queries answered.
Regarding the continents, the most visited by the travelers attended at the CVI continues to be Africa with 38 percent, followed by Asia, which recovers the second position thanks to the lifting of sanitary restrictions and which accounts for 35 percent of the consultations. attended. Central and South America, for its part, has gone from 33 percent of consultations in 2021 to 26 percent this year. It should be noted that in the case of trips to the American continent, Colombia takes over from Ecuador this year as the favorite destination.
New user profile
Regarding the profile of the international traveler, the average age of the users of the center has decreased. “They are younger people, fans of adventure travel or who even travel for work or taking advantage of teleworking compared to an older profile, such as retired users who traveled in a group and who now opt for national and European destinations that they consider safer,” says Dr. Olga Redondo, from the Guadalajara Preventive Medicine service.
Since mid-March, the International Vaccination Center has been serving travelers in its new premises, located on the ground floor of the Guadalajara Hospital expansion building.
The CVI offers comprehensive care as it provides information on mandatory and recommended vaccinations in each destination, many of which are administered and offers useful information when traveling to different destinations. This information refers to common and emerging diseases in each place, tips to prevent insect bites, diarrhea and other health problems related to animal bites or possible infections, among others.
