The international trains of European Sleeper and GreenCityTrip were diverted today via the railway line Hengelo – Zutphen, also known as state line D. To make this possible, a diesel locomotive was hired from Strukton.
Finished work
There is normally little to do on the Hengelo – Zutphen railway line. Every half hour a slow train from Syntus under the name Blauwnet chugs over it. And with a bit of luck you will spot a freight train, but you will not normally find much more on the railway line.
Some train spotters hope that the line will one day become an international rail line again. That normally seems like a dream with little realism. Nevertheless, suddenly some international trains were running on the line today. Rode? Overdue work at Almelo. NS International decided to cancel the Amsterdam – Berlin trains between the capital and Bad Bentheim, but Train Charter Services came up with a better solution.
Kudos
Train Charter Services acts as a carrier on behalf of GreenCityTrip and EuropeanSleeper. A locomotive was hired from Strukton to allow the night trains from Berlin and Prague to arrive in the Netherlands. It now pulled the train over the non-electrified railway line. The carriages are also equipped with a battery, so that the current in the carriages continued to work during the piece.
Train Charter Services deserves kudos, according to Treinreiziger.nl editor Hildebrand van Kuijeren. “In these circumstances, large rail companies opt to partially cancel the train, but a creative solution like this is rarely chosen,” he says.
