The Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, estimated that international tourists who arrived in El Salvador left more than $106 million that were injected into the Salvadoran economy during the Easter holiday period.
According to the projections of the head of the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), this money has been raised between April 23 and March 31 with the entry of 132,000 international tourists. In relation to the 2023 data, which reported the entry of 126,000 foreign tourists, this time the increase is 29%.
According to Morena Valdez, the projections of Nayib Bukele Ortez’s government have exceeded in all aspects the “expectations they had.”
As for cold numbers, MITUR says that 1.7 million people visited the recreational parks run by the Salvadoran Institute of Tourism (ISTU). In 2024 the number of visitors increased by 46% compared to those reported in 2023.
Although on this occasion the government managed to divide domestic tourism between public and private, it was said that 2.6 million people visited private establishments, which represented an increase of 9%.
Regarding the entry of foreign tourists, it was said that 36% were from Guatemala, 29% from the United States, 21% from Honduras and 14% from other nationalities. They entered 32% by air and 68% by land.
Valdez stressed that the achievements that have been obtained on this occasion allow them to improve on social networks, especially in improving the services of all establishments in the tourism sector.
Other positive figures from MITUR are the more than 511,000 people who came to public places, 502,000 on public beaches and about 450,000 people came to the Historic Center of San Salvador. It should also be included 138,000 who arrived at cultural sites, 56,000 more who entered Ministry of Public Works sites and 22,000 arrived at protected natural areas.
