International Theater and Dance Festival High Season at the Alliance Française

THIS IS NOT (an act of love & resistance).

The ninth edition of the International Theater and Dance Festival High Seasoncurated by Karin Elmoreorganized by the Alliance Française of Lima with the support of the Embassy of France, and the collaboration of the Ramon Llull Institute, the Embassy of Chile, the Japan Foundation, the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC), the Crossing the sea program of the Teatro delle Marche, the Italian Institute of Culture and the Radisson Hotel.

This season offers new programming to the diverse audiences of the city of Lima, shows, free workshops, movies, concerts and meetings with artists, of the highest quality.

The inaugural show was performed by the dance company of choreographer Aina Alegre (director of the National Choreographic Center of Grenoble), with the show THIS IS NOT (an act of love & resistance), performed by 5 dancers and 4 musicians who invoke different imaginaries around the air, through dance, music and the rhythm of the word. It will be presented on February 6 and 7 at 8:00 pm at the NOS Theater in San Isidro (Av. Camino Real 1037).

The show is also presented from France Vue, a proposal that combines object theater, clown and contemporary circus, written and created by Étienne Manceau and performed by Amélie Venisse.

From Spain they arrive at the festival The Sorrows of Young Wertheran adaptation of a classic of German literature written and directed by Miquel Mas Fiol and starring Mel Salvatierra; On Fire, directed by Emma Arquillué and Pablo Macho, who also acts, and In the middle of so much fire, by the renowned playwright and poet Alberto Conejero, who has won numerous awards such as the National Prize for Dramatic Literature (Spain), directed by Xavier Alberti and performed by Rubén de Eguía.

The programming of festival this year also includes the premiere of Strange People About East Asia Goodbye (Test) (Japan), directed by playwright and director Yudai Kamisato and performed by Peruvian actress Macla Yamada; Some choreographies (Italy), by Jacopo Jenna, performed by dancer Ramona Caia; Reminiscence (Chile), a work that mixes theater with performance, directed and performed by Malicho Vaca.

From Peru we will present the work Burn Baby Burn, by the French playwright Carine Lacroix, directed by Georgia Tavares (Brazil/France), and performed by Abigail López, Angela Rojas, Aric Bernal and Verónica Infantes. This project is a Franco-Peruvian co-production between three cultural institutions: the Alliance Française of Lima, the National School of Theater Arts and Techniques of Lyon (ENSATT, France) and the Guillermo Ugarte Chamorro National School of Dramatic Art of Peru ( ENSAD).

One of the novelties of this edition of the festival is the presentation of open and free classes of traditional Peruvian, Argentine and urban dance. On February 10, 17, 24 and March 1, the following open classes will be taught: First steps of tango, by Oscar Buroz; Andean shoe: Huaylarsh of carnival, directed by Alexander Clemente Polo; Sailor from Malambo, taught by the national Marinera champion Alejandra Ambukka and House Dance, dictated by Brighit Mercado and Astrid Camacho. All of these free activities will take place in the Espacio Libertad of the French Alliance of Miraflores (Av. Arequipa 4595).

Within the framework of the festival we propose the cycle “High Temperature Dinner”, what presents fictions, documentaries and valuable records related to dance. From Argentina, the exquisite cycle Dance Cinema will be held on February 14, 15 and 16, in which a Selection of short films Social Tango and Argentine feature films Being y The tango, those minutes of revenge, directed by Pablo Destito and Agustina Videla, in addition to Grooming y Lie the Truth V: Philosophy with the body, by Pablo Destito. From the perspective of cinema masters such as Win Wenders, Cédric Kaplisch and Jacques Demy, and directors to discover such as Philippe Béziat and Emma Benestan. On March 1 there will be a special screening of the film The Dance of the Blackbirds by Alvaro Luque. All of these films can be seen at the Alianza Francesa Cinema in Lima (Av. Arequipa 4595, Miraflores).

The festival will close on Saturday, March 2 at 8:00pm. in the French Alliance of Miraflores with the Los Mirlos concert and Flora Masato. Los Mirlos is a Peruvian cumbia band formed in the 1970s. Pioneers of the Amazonian cumbia genre, Los Mirlos have left an indelible mark on the Latin American music scene. Led by Jorge Rodríguez Granda, the group has masterfully fused elements of cumbia with contemporary influences, such as surfing, rock, psychedelia and Peruvian music.

He International Theater and Dance Festival High Seasoncarried out in association with Girona, Buenos Aires and Montevideo, offers, in this edition, a wide range of stage proposals and a program of activities such as dance workshops, concerts, dance films, meetings with artists and other activities, both free and paid.

The ninth edition of the festival is a celebration of life, offering high-quality activities in a warm and friendly environment, in which reflections on current and common topics are shared, encouraging dialogue and exchange.

Everyone is invited to be part of the IX International Theater and Dance Festival High Season which opens its doors this February 6.
