International tennis agency sanctions 4 Mexicans for corruption

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITAI) has sanctioned four Mexican and one Ecuadorian tennis players for corruption and match-fixing cases, which violates the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).

The sanctions relate to a 2023 criminal case involving a match-fixing organisation in Belgium, for which Bulgarian official Stefan Milanov and French player Leny Mitjana were suspended earlier this year.

Among the names of the Mexicans are Mauricio Reséndiz (ranked 1305th in the ATP in 2016) and Raúl Isaías Rosas-Zarur (ranked 1425th in 2018), who received a five-year suspension (until 2029) and a fine of 15 thousand dollars, as did the Ecuadorian Iván Endara (ranked 367th in 2015).

The tricolor Ivar Aramburu Contreras (ranked 1244 in 2022) was sanctioned until March 2026 and fined $44,000, of which $30,800 is suspended. His brother, Aitor Aramburu Contreras (ranked 1663 in 2018) was penalized until 2025 and fined $36,000, of which $25,200 is suspended.

“All the charges relate to matches played in 2017 and/or 2018, and are linked to manipulating the outcome of matches, facilitating betting, accepting money in exchange for not making best efforts and failing to report corrupt approaches,” the ITIA said in a statement.

“The individuals admitted to wrongdoing and accepted an agreed-upon sanction, waiving their right to a hearing before an independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer,” it said.
