US officials said today that following the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, the US and several of its allies have established an international task force aimed at disrupting financial flows to the Palestinian Islamist group and helping to strengthen the fight against terrorism, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
The countries in the task force will share more intelligence on matters related to terrorist fundraising, the US Treasury Department said in a statement. In addition, opportunities for further actions and the realization of additional partnerships will be discussed. The countries will also strengthen relations between their financial intelligence units, public services and the private sector.
The task force consists of units from the financial intelligence and other services of Australia, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Israel, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Following the Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel, Washington imposed several packages of sanctions against Hamas that targeted the group’s financial portfolio.
