BRATISLAVA. Last week, at the press conference, they presented the trophies for which the best female skiers in the world are to fight at the end of January near Chopok.
A giant slalom is planned for the Jasná center on Saturday, January 20, and a slalom a day later. A large number of spectators is expected on both competition days, which should drive Petra Vlhová to further victories.
Today, however, it seems that not everything is going according to plan.
“The resort is ready, it’s just a problem with finances. We don’t organize the World Cup as a resort, we just provide premises.
It is organized by the ski association, but it does not have enough funds for it,” said the chairman of the board of Tatry Mountain Resorts, Igor Rattaj, to RTVS.

The current situation was also confirmed by the president of the Slovak Skiing Association, Martin Paško.
According to him, the key is the subsidy from the state, which was promised by the previous government. However, at the time when all the requisites were to be completed, new parliamentary elections were held, which also brought about fundamental changes in the government.
Paško understands that the newly elected representatives have to study things, but there are less than 50 days left until the start of the skiing holiday in Slovakia.
He also admitted a negative scenario:
“In the event that something becomes complicated and it is not possible to finance it, we will have to sit down together with the main partners and look for solutions, whether the World Cup in Slovakia will be canceled or will continue.”

The cost of financing the World Cup in downhill skiing is approximately four million euros. The money for this is obtained through sponsorship, the sale of broadcast rights to 30 countries around the world, or from the sale of entrance fees.
Support from the state should be at the level of 900,000 euros.
“We contributed a lot, but we can’t pull it all off. I think the state should contribute. It has already been requested, but it still hasn’t been completed. I hope it will be completed and it won’t be a big shame. ” added Rattaj.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports is already dealing with the situation.
“As it is an event of international importance, the ministry sent the mentioned request, including the presented budget of the Sports Support Fund with a proposal to provide a contribution to the project of supporting an important competition,” spokeswoman for the department Dagmara Al-Khaldi Mičeková told RTVS.
It should be decided in mid-December whether the state will support one of the most prestigious sports events in Slovakia.
