The international throwing competitions in an urban environment “THE HERO” will take place tomorrow Wednesday (24/5) in Alykes Anavyssos and are co-organized by the Municipality of Saronikos, the Festival “Mesogeia” and the Chamber of Commerce of Athens in collaboration with EAS SEGAS ATHINAS and under the AUGUSTICE of SEGAS with the aim of spreading classical sports and Olympic education in the Municipality. The leading Greek champions will participate and compete with foreign champions in the categories of teenagers, youth, young women, men and women.
The Mayor of Saronikos and chairman of the Organizing Committee “The Hero” Dimitris Papachristou, welcomed those present at the press conference by addressing a greeting in which he emphasized, among other things: “Our goal is for the Municipality of Saronikos to become a supra-local sports center that will host major events. It starts with The Hero. Be continiued. We wanted to bring sports into our city because we know that it is not always easy for a parent to take their children to the stadium. We bring the games to our neighborhood, next to our beach so that everyone can watch.”
Afterwards, the Director of the International Meeting, Ariadni Dada, the Deputy Mayor of Culture and Sports, Natalie Kakkava, and the Deputy Mayor of Everyday Affairs and rural Deputy Mayor of Anavyssos, Babis Galanis, took the floor for brief greetings.
Chasing the boundaries
The international meeting is included in the calendar of the world Federation and the athletes will chase the limits for the world and pan-European championships in 2024 with the aim of the pan-European games in Rome and the Olympic games in Paris as well as the overall rankings. The limits will also apply as normal for the U18 Pan European Championship in Slovakia, the U20 World Championship in Peru and the Men’s and Women’s Pan European Championship in Rome.
The top Greek shot put champions will participate and foreign international champions have been invited in the youth, youth, male and female categories from five European countries. Among the men, Odysseas Mouzenidis and Kostas Gennikis, Theofanis Mavrodontis, Athanasios Annivas Oikonomou and Dimitris Kostiakos, among others, will compete, and among the women, Maria Maggoulia and Anastasia Dragomirova stand out.
The presence of Anastasia Andreadis and Maria Raphaelidou, the two young athletes of the K18 category, who are already standing out with their performances, will be of great interest. Foreign shot put champions are also expected to participate in the games. The Polish Szymon Mazur stands out among them, with shots over 20 meters.
For the children
In addition, within the framework of the organization, there will be games imitating the hurling competitions with the appropriate sports equipment for the children of the municipality’s elementary and high school. The celebration will begin with the 1,000 meter race for the primary and secondary schools of the Municipality of Saronikos and will be followed by the untimed jump, the throw and the sprints.
