International Rescue Committee: Humanitarian worker killed in airstrike in Ethiopia’s Tigray region

NAIROBI, Oct 15 (Reuters) – A humanitarian worker was among three people killed in an airstrike in the city of Shire in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region, the International Rescue Committee said Saturday.

The committee said in a statement that the aid worker, who was working with the committee’s health and nutrition team, died Friday from injuries sustained while providing care to women and children.

The commission said another IRC worker was injured in the attack, while two civilians were killed and three others wounded.

The attack took place in an area where the Ethiopian government and its Eritrean ally have been fighting Tigrinya forces intermittently for two years.

Ethiopian government spokesman Legis Tulu, military spokesman Colonel Geetnet Adan or Prime Minister Beilin Seyoum spokesman did not respond to requests for comment on Friday’s incident.
