Five suspects were interrogated in Spain and Latvia.
At the end of the operation, the person suspected of founding the cybercriminal group appeared before a court in Paris.
Hardware linked to the group was also seized in the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden.
This international operation is the result of a complex investigation led by the French National Gendarmerie in cooperation with law enforcement agencies from the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine and the United States.
The “Ragnar Locker” faction has been active since December 2019. The group used malware to attack critical infrastructure around the world.
The Ragnar Locker group is known for its “double extortion” tactic, demanding large ransoms for both decryption tools and not publishing sensitive data. The group was considered a high-level threat due to its propensity to attack critical infrastructure.
