Saiful Bahri Report | Lhokseumawe
SERAMBINEWS.COM, LHOKSEUMAWE – International moon observation night, usually called International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN), is an annual activity that was initiated and first declared in 2010 by amateur and professional astronomers in the United States.
Then this event was well received and is always celebrated every year by all teams of amateur and professional astronomers throughout the world.
Head of the Department of Astrology, Faculty of Sharia, IAIN Lhokseumawe, Dr Tgk Ismail SSy MA, explained that InOMN was declared to aim to introduce the Moon to the general public scientifically, considering that the Moon is the only celestial body that is close to Earth.
“It is very beautiful for anyone who looks at it and there are various people’s understanding of the Moon, both scientifically and mythologically. The Moon is also the only natural satellite that Earth has that influences sea tides,” he said.
There are two conditions that must be met in determining InOMN every year.
First, observations carried out on Sunday nights must coincide with the first quarter of the Hijri month in September, October or November.
Second, observations must use a telescope (a tool for viewing the Moon) so that all visitors can see directly the shape of the Moon’s surface and the craters on the Moon.
In accordance with the agreed terms, InOMN for 2023 will occur on October 21 2023, which coincides with the first quarter of the month of Rabiul Akhir 1445 H.
On this occasion, the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Sharia, IAIN Lhokseumawe will make observations using 4 telescopes and this event is open to the public.
If the weather is clear and not raining, this event will be held in the courtyard of the IAIN Lhokseumawe Campus Auditorium Building.
This event is planned from 18.00 to 21.00 WIB. “We hope that all the people around the IAIN Lhokseumawe Campus can be present to introduce the telescope and the Moon to children, because the committee has also prepared 1 telescope for the end of elementary and middle school children,” said Tgk Ismail.
