The world celebrates November 19 every year On International Men’s Day On this occasion, we provide you with some health information about the diseases to which travelers are more exposed than women and methods of prevention, according to a report on the American Rush University website.
The report explained that many of the health risks that affect men can be attributed to their behaviors that lead to an increased incidence of diseases, such as: smoking, which is most common among men, and that some men tend to eat fast and often unhealthy meals.
Scientists said that genes, heredity, and hormones lead to an increased risk of some diseases in men compared to women.
Diseases that are more common among men than women
Heart disease:
The rate of heart disease in men is greater than that of women. According to statistics, among men aged 65 years and over, more than 39% suffer from heart disease, compared to about 27% of women in the same age group.
The researchers attributed the reason for this to the fact that most men’s fat always accumulates in the rumen and abdomen, which is called visceral fat, which is a risk factor for heart disease.
Men also do not enjoy the protection of the hormone estrogen found in women, which regulates blood cholesterol levels and reduces the risk of heart disease.
Parkinson’s disease:
Parkinson’s disease affects men more than women, and the reason for this is the lack of estrogen in men, which protects the body’s nerve functions by activating certain proteins or reducing free radicals. Some research indicates that Parkinson’s disease is linked to the inheritance of the male X chromosome.
Other diseases affect males more than females due to genetics and body biology:
-Autism
– Kidney stones
-pancreatitis
Regarding the most important ways to prevent common diseases for men, researchers recommend the need to conduct regular medical examinations to detect any problem at its beginning and easily treat it, as well as quitting smoking, losing weight, getting rid of belly fat, and eating a healthy, balanced diet.
