International Film Festival with Alternative Media Explores Artificial Intelligence in Mexican Cinema

The flats of Artificial Intelligence in Mexican cinema will be the theme of the next edition of the International Film Festival with Alternative Media, which will be held from the 18th to the 26th in different locations in Mexico City.

Two of the tables that will focus on this are one on the Legislative, ethical and humanistic Panorama of AI, and another whose axis will be to discuss whether the new technology will replace film creators and other creative industries.

Miguel Ángel Ramírez, director of the contest that will celebrate its eighth edition, believes that finally AI is something that must be addressed whether you agree with it or not.

“Without fear of machines,” he comments, “technology has always affected many, but for that we have to work on regulation so that it does not harm humans.”

This is the second edition that will address the topic, since last year they talked about the industry in history.

“It is something that we cannot get away from, it is already there and that is why there will be specialized people like. In Mexican cinema it is barely in its infancy, it is being seen. There is a guy out there who brings up the idea of ​​making a film entirely like that,” says Ramírez.

A workshop on making short films with AI and another on introduction to music making with generative AI will also be part of the activities.

For this edition, FICMA has more than 140 productions, including feature films and short films, from more than 10 countries, which in addition to in-person screenings, can be seen on the official website of the film event.

Since its first edition, the contest specialized in new audiovisual narratives, such as transmedia, 360-degree productions, web series and virtual reality.

Among the selected Mexican productions are the fiction “Quantum Fear”, made as if it were a video game, the documentary “I laugh at the waves”, about a girl looking for her family and the short “Orfeo”, about social networks. social and youth.

Among the FICMA headquarters are El Rule Comunidad de Saberes, the SAE México, the Cineteca Nacional, Le Cinéma IFAL, the Faculty of Cinema, the Digital Cultural Center, the University of the Claustro de Sor Juana and the Xavier Villaurrutia Cultural Center.
