International Film Festival presents productions by artists from the continent – Journal OPaís

Exhibitions of works by national and international producers will be held in five places in the capital, on the first day, yesterday, at Cinemax Fortaleza, followed today at Cinemax Kilamba and Nova Vida, from 4 pm to 9 pm.

Even today, the films that show different ways of events that happened on the African continent and beyond will be shown at the Instituto Médio de Artes (CEARTE), from 10 am to 3 pm.

Tomorrow, the 22nd, the Cazenga Media Library “Zé Dú” will also welcome lovers of the seventh art to admire the various productions on the festival’s agenda. According to the group’s member, Joel Garcia Sungo, the festival is organized every year, taking place in the capital of the country, celebrating Angolan and pan-African cinema, showing films on the making of Africa and its diaspora.

Joel Garcia Sungo said that he aims to contribute to the development of the Angolan and African film industry, providing moments of reflection and entertainment for lovers of the seventh art.

“We intend to praise and promote Angolan cinema, as well as to support national and African culture in general”, he said. Due to the various achievements of the event and others to come, the person -interviews we believe that it will help in creating a cinematographic market platform for national and African films.And, also, allow the Angolan people to connect with African cinema and other producers in the industry film.

Giving lectures

While the festival is taking place, the group has been holding lectures, workshops around national cinema, as well as workshops with the participation of national and foreign guests.

“In this way, ‘Luanda PAFF’ targets all African filmmakers, even those in the diaspora, including those of Afro descent. The whole society, in general, is invited to participate in the activity, because the rooms will be available to accommodate people of all ages, from young people, teenagers and adults”, he said.

Lack of prize sponsorship conditions

On the other hand, a member of the event group clarified that the program for this year’s edition was somewhat limited due to the lack of more financial support.

As a result of this case and others, he said, it will not be possible to give monetary awards, only certificates of merit to filmmakers whose work was worthy of some kind of fame.

During the festival, the films will be awarded by the jury in the categories of the best short film, the best feature film, the best documentary, the best drama series, the best director, the best cinematography best, best actor, best actress, among others.

The festival

The first edition was held at the Fundação Arte e Cultura, paying tribute to Óscar Micheaux, the first black filmmaker in history, with the screening of some of his films. While the second stage featured innovation, a new category called the ‘Ndinga Award’, for the ‘Best Film in an African Language’.
