International Film and Environment Festival of the Caribbean – Second Edition in Cuba: Call for Entries and Preparations Underway

The International Film and Environment Festival of the Caribbean, Isla Verde, chaired by the actor, director and plastic artist Jorge Perugorría, begins today its preparations for the second edition in Cuba.

The event will take place in April, but the call for the event has already been launched, this year with a competitive nature and to be held on the Isle of Youth, a special municipality, in western Cuba.

The contest will screen feature films and short films with narratives to promote the conservation and protection of the environment, and document the active relationship between human beings and nature.

According to the event’s Organizing Committee, this year’s presentation is leaning towards cinema that makes visible, raises awareness and promotes sustainable solutions, and the seventh art is a powerful tool to meet these objectives, states the source.

The last edition was held from May to June and presented films, documentaries and short films about the impact of human actions, through works contributed by the Good Planet Foundation, Cinema Planeta and the international association Green Film Network, a network that brings together more of 30 environmental festivals in the world.

Among the previously released films were Plastic Island (2019), by the Dominican director José María Cabral, The Pandemic Factory (2022), by the French Marie Monique Robin, Legacy, our heritage (2021) and Home (2009), by the Welsh filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand, founder of Good Planet.
