International Festival Ballet – Swan Lake

The International Festival Ballet presents a fairy tale of beauty, elegance and grace. A consummate work of art with live orchestral accompaniment

The International Festival Ballet presents one of the most famous ballets of all time, which for many is the epitome of the genre: “Swan Lake” to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The romantic fairy tale about the young Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with the swan princess Odetta and wants to free her from Duke Rotbart’s evil spell, deals with the power of true love and, as a ballet, is part of the standard repertoire of all major companies. What’s more, this brilliant work by a brilliant composer has been a real crowd puller for centuries. The famous St. Petersburg Festival Ballet was originally announced for this performance, and it is coming – albeit under a new name. In May 2022 the name of the ballet will be changed to International Festival Ballet. One of the reasons for this is that the ballet, which sees itself as a cultural mediator, has come under massive pressure from its home country because it has positioned itself for Ukraine. The change was made as a conscious sign of differentiation.
