Global cinema, which transforms and tells stories from diversity, reflection and conversation, is the focus of the International Feature Film competition at the Cali International Film Festival. This event, which reaffirms our city as a territory that tells stories from its identity and culture, will take place from October 31 to November 6, 2023.
The competition will screen 12 international feature films from countries such as Spain, Canada, Finland, France, Portugal, Brazil, among others: it also has co-productions between Greece, Colombia and the United States; Peru, France, Colombia and South Africa together with Colombia.
Some of the screenings found in this competition have been acclaimed on the international festival circuit; On the other hand, there will be true cinematographic discoveries and films that – although they are not so well known – tell shocking stories with new voices and narratives.
“The International competition is designed as a program that brings to the city a film offer that is being received with success worldwide and in other settings. They are stories of very well-known directors who have left their mark in many places and diverse audiences,” explained Diana Cadavid, Artistic Director of Ficcali.
“This is the opportunity to see films that are being screened for the first time in Colombia and Cali within the framework of the Festival. Furthermore, it is the program in which we can discover gems of international cinema that dialogue with us as a city and as a country, they are stories that have very different ranges,” Cadavid added.
Horror, drama, comedy, among other genres, will reach the diverse audiences in our city with stories that are being recognized worldwide. This year we have a great representation of several countries, in addition, co-productions between Colombia and other countries that reflect the dizzying growth of the national industry.
“The producer of Colombian origin, of the film cavewoman, produced between Greece, Colombia and the United States, will be present at the Festival. This shows that Colombian talent is achieving success around the world,” said the Artistic Director of Ficcali.
The films in this category compete for the ‘María’ award for Best International Feature Film and the ‘Luis Ospina’ award for Best Direction of an International Feature Film.
This is how the Cali Mayor’s Office, with the work of the Ministry of Culture, continues to develop processes that bring to our city the international talent that contributes to our cultural identity processes and breaks stereotypes, giving way to diversity.
