Dog Day appears several times in the calendar of unusual holidays. For dog lovers, it is just another excuse to give their pet a nice surprise. The closest opportunity to celebrate with your four-legged friend falls today – August 26, when we celebrate International Dog Day.
How to celebrate with a dog? What can you do to make this day special?
– The most valuable gift for our pet will be time spent together. A long walk, playing will bring the dog more joy than a new toy. Remember that for our dog we are the most important person in the world and such time spent together is something really great for the quadruped, something he looks forward to for many hours when we are at work. – reminds Kama Frąckowski-Pilarska, head of the Miluszków Foundation, which supports the Piła animal shelter.
In Piła, there is no shortage of areas for joint walks. In the summer, it is worth going to the forest, where the shade of the trees will protect against the heat. Such a long walk, filled with sniffing and good fun, will make the dog use up energy and after returning home, he will happily go for a nap. And when he falls asleep, he will certainly be happy about celebrating Dog Day in this way.
But there are also four-legged creatures who are not so lucky and will spend Dog Day behind bars in an animal shelter. It is worth remembering them on this special day. How can you help?
– On our Facebook profile, we share photos of quadrupeds for adoption. If we cannot take a dog into our home, it is worth sharing these posts so that they reach as many Internet users as possible – encourages Alice Dorsch, head of the Piła animal shelter “Miluszków”.
Sharing dogs looking for homes like this is the fastest form of help. It doesn’t cost us anything, and the photos reach a wide audience. Maybe for someone considering adopting a four-legged friend, it will be an impulse to adopt one of the shelter’s charges. So it’s worth liking and sharing the shelter’s posts on social media. Especially on Dog Day.
For shelter dogs, walking in the company of volunteers is also a great pleasure. This is also a way to bring joy to the charges of Miluszkowo.
– We invite volunteers to join us on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as on most public holidays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – reminds Alice Dorsch – Each such walk is an opportunity for the dog to meet new people, and for the volunteer a great satisfaction, because thanks to him the homeless dog can be happy, even for a moment.
