In concretization of the Will of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who has frequently called for mobilization around education to make it a powerful lever for the development of society, the Kingdom of Morocco is fully committed to the emergence of a united vision of education, indicates a press release from the national coordination of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH).
Thus, in celebration of the International Day of Education, coinciding on January 24, under the theme “Changing course, transforming education”, the INDH has signed up to bring out a united vision of education, as an actor committed to educational transformation.
This event, initiated by UNESCO, constitutes a call for the emergence of a united vision of education, in which the INDH is part, which since the launch by the Sovereign in September 2018 of its third phase, has committed to combating the main obstacles to sustainable and inclusive human development, it was noted, adding that the very philosophy of the current stage of the Initiative is also in line with the main orientations and recommendations of the New Model of Development, in particular on the need to build and enhance the human capital of our country.
As part of this phase III, continues the same source, the INDH has invested, in support of the Department of National Education, in the vast project of the generalization of preschool education in rural areas. Halfway through this third phase, the assessment of the achievements gives hope. The 2019-2021 period saw the programming of some 8,000 preschool units, of which around 3,790 are already operational.
In these establishments, more than 71,000 children from rural areas currently benefit from quality supervision, to which must be added more than 36,000 beneficiary children who have already entered primary school. The creation of these units has made it possible to encourage pre-schooling for girls in rural areas – they represent half of enrollments -, and to promote female employment in rural areas, with the creation of approximately 4,520 teaching posts. , of which 68% are occupied by women, it was specified.
The Initiative also participates in efforts to reduce learning poverty in the primary cycle, through the establishment of free tutoring classes for the benefit of more than 160,000 students throughout the national territory.
The INDH has also strongly contributed, since its launch in 2005, to the national effort to improve the conditions of schooling for pupils and the fight against school dropout, in particular by implementing close of 1090 Dar Talib (a) which allowed the care of more than 100,000 beneficiaries. For the 2019-2021 period alone, nearly 500 Dar Talib(a) were supported, enabling 40,600 students to continue their lessons by providing, in many cases, a solution to the problems posed by the distance between the school and home, especially in rural areas.
In the same vein, the INDH has strengthened the supply of school transport through the acquisition of 2,400 vehicles which have benefited approximately 96,000 students since 2005, underlines the Initiative.
During the first stage of phase III, 600 vehicles were deployed to transport 17,500 students. In this same capacity, and with the aim of strengthening equal opportunities in terms of access to education and combating the phenomenon of school dropouts, a budget envelope of more than 480 MDH has been mobilized for the implementation of the Royal Initiative “1 Million Schoolbags”, benefiting 4.7 million pupils.
In addition, the INDH is today at the initiative of the production of an educational web-series, entitled “Nadi Alhourouf”, the dissemination of which will begin on social networks on the occasion of this International Day of education.
According to the same source, the objective of this program is to facilitate the mastery of reading in Arabic and to acquire strong and autonomous language skills. This project follows the launch by the INDH in 2020 of a program of fun educational activities – “Atfalouna” -, broadcast on national television and on social networks, which aimed to ensure the continuity of the preschool service. , during the specific context of the sanitary confinement imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. These initiatives illustrate the INDH’s desire to make digital and innovation central tools in its actions to promote human capital, particularly in the field of education.
Ultimately, whether by bringing together the conditions for successful schooling, or by contributing to the improvement of the quality of learning, the INDH participates in the great ambition nurtured by His Majesty King Mohammed VI: to make education a powerful sesame for an equitable and sustainable development of the Kingdom, concludes the press release of the National Coordination of the INDH.
