International Criminal Court Opens Field Office in Kyiv to Address Crimes Against Ukraine

A field office of the International Criminal Court has opened in Kyiv, reports the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

“This is a new chapter of our cooperation. The work of the office will help strengthen interaction between Ukraine and the International Criminal Court. It will increase the efficiency and speed of response to the crimes that Russia continues to commit daily against Ukraine and Ukrainians,” said Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andrey Kostin.

As noted on the website of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the open office of the ICC in Kyiv is the largest representative office of the court outside The Hague.

In March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova, accusing them of deporting children from Ukraine.

In July, the International Center for Investigation of the Russian Invasion in Ukraine began work in The Hague, which included prosecutors from Ukraine, the European Union, the United States and the International Criminal Court. Eurojust called the creation of the center the first step towards the creation of a special tribunal, since the materials collected by the center will become the basis for initiating a criminal case for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
