Anyone who loves Bruckner must go to Linz. Not only because of his nearby birthplace Ansfelden, but above all because of the International Bruckner Festival there, which is dedicated to the work of the Upper Austrian church musician and symphonist. This year, Bruckner admirers will get their money’s worth like never before. Because the 200th birthday of the celebrant deserves to be celebrated appropriately. The focus of the festival is the symphonic work of the great Romantic, and not just in excerpts: As a complete cycle, from the early study symphony to the “Annulled” and the unfinished Ninth Symphony, the extensive works will be heard in their original sound. The Ninth will kick off the event with a ceremony in the Ansfelden parish church, where Bruckner was baptized in 1824.
The whole cosmos of Bruckner
The symphonies are complemented by concerts dedicated to sacred works as well as songs. The entire sacred work will be performed in the Old Cathedral on two evenings. The Linz Bruckner Festival will find its perfection in the cultivation of the works of Anton Brucker’s students, including Hans Rott and Cyrill Hynais – an extensive program that is as diverse as the invited conductors or the versions of the Bruckner symphonies.
