International Biathlon Union returns bronze to Norwegians in mixed relay at European Championship

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) returned the athletes of the Norwegian national team a bronze medal in the mixed relay at the European Championships in Belarus after an appeal. The organization reported this in Twitter.

“After receiving the protest, the jury of appeal once again examined the whole situation. Taking into account the visual materials, as well as the testimonies of the witnesses, the jury decided to satisfy the objection and leave the results of the race, which were recorded at the finish, ”the statement said.

On February 27, following the results of the mixed relay, the first place was taken by Ukrainian athletes, the second – Russian, the third – Norwegian, the fourth – Belarusian. However, later the IBU canceled the results of the Norwegian team after the complaint of the Belarusian side. The reason was that Alexander Andersen, on the last lap, allegedly pushed the Belarusian biathlete Sergei Bocharnikov off the track. The Norwegians appealed the decision to disqualify the team.

The European Biathlon Championship will be held until March 1.
