Clínica Uros is the first IPS in the South Colombian region to receive this international award. The Angel’s recognition ratifies this institution as a national benchmark for highly complex care in stroke cases.
Achieving excellence in medical practices has been one of the main objectives of Clínica Uros throughout its 20 years of service. This is how, on July 21, it received the International Angel’s Award, in the Gold and Platinum category. , which recognizes and exalts the successful protocols of the institution in the care of patients with Cerebrovascular Accident – ACV, commonly known as stroke. This exaltation is the first that the Angel’s initiative delivers to an IPS in the South Colombian region.

This is what the neurologist, Guillermo González, assures: “Clínica Uros has a fairly advanced stroke care program, it has emergency physicians trained in the area, a protocol for the treatment of these patients and a multidisciplinary team that, from the counselor, the x-ray technician, nurse, intensive care unit and specialists allow for team care. I can guarantee anyone that if they have an acute brain event, they will receive timely care at Clínica Uros”.
FOUR HOURS TO SAVE LIVES
This protocol is governed by international standards. As explained by the institution’s emergency physician, Aris Alexander Vargas Díaz, “he is up-to-date with the latest guidelines for stroke management, therefore, when the patient arrives, we have people trained to identify if they have any type of neurological involvement and we activate the protocol . We carry out diagnostic imaging studies and between an emergency physician, neurologist, neurosurgeon and neurointerventionist, we define what the management will be”.
One of the key factors to achieve success in the treatment is the opportunity with which it begins, in such a way that patients who suffer from it must arrive at the institution within 4 hours of the event.
The ED ensures that when patients arrive at the health institution within the first 4 hours, the effectiveness of the intervention could be 80%. “The results are satisfactory in improving the quality of life of the patient, the family and their entire social environment. When action is not taken in time, many people are left with facial deformities, functional limitations, respiratory disorders, bedridden or in a coma”, points out Vargas Díaz.
“The issue is getting patients to arrive on time and this is a very complex job that involves: the family, the first level nurse, the general practitioners and having the general knowledge to go quickly to a place like Clínica Uros. What everyone should know is that the brain has a maximum time to save itself of 4 hours, which is why it is important that they be referred to a hospital center that has the capabilities to do so, such as Clínica Uros”, added the neurologist. THE ANGEL’S AWARD
ACV is considered the leading cause of disability worldwide, which has forced the scientific community to join efforts to counteract its effects. This is how the international initiative ‘Angel’s’ arose, which promotes improved care for stroke victims, understood as the interruption of blood circulation.
“The Angel’s Awards were created to recognize the high quality standards in care for patients with stroke. Clínica Uros has obtained its second award because we found that it has one of the best service times and an improvement in the entire process. It is an international recognition from the World Stroke Organization, which validates the high quality and adequate service”, highlighted Andrea Torres Narváez, Angel’s consultant and who presented the awards to the South Colombian health institution.

Five years ago, Clínica Uros decided to bet on the Angel’s initiative, with the firm intention of being a benchmark in the treatment of patients with stroke, a disease that has become the second cause of mortality in Colombia.
“We promised to be experts in stroke management and today we are, and this recognition we received shows it. Here they can receive attention with the highest scientific quality but above all with the highest human warmth”, indicated the National Manager Neydi Jaimes.
According to the National Medical Director, Uriel Gutiérrez Velásquez, “the entire work team, both healthcare and administrative, decided to believe that it could be achieved, even though we were in a region where talking about stroke was unknown to the population. After beginning to promote knowledge of: what it is, how it could be treated and what were the alarm signs to be able to reach an institution of this level that could care for them; We began to work so that all our staff were trained so that the attention was excellent”.
LIFE OPPORTUNITY
Since Clínica Uros implemented the stroke protocol, it has provided treatment to 488 people diagnosed with this pathology, managing to provide a new opportunity for life to its patients and their families.

Being a strategic ally, the Comprehensive Oncology Center (CIO) will be placed at the service of the entire country with linear accelerators with cutting-edge technology for radiotherapy, chemotherapy service and multidisciplinary oncology consultation.
Along with the start-up of the new Comprehensive Oncology Center (CIO), Tower E is being built with 149 hospital beds, a modern seven-story infrastructure that will be used to provide adult and pediatric hospitalization care with suite-type accommodation and an area intended for cinema and games for children admitted to the institution.
But this is not all, in the next few days Clínica Uros will open the doors of its new headquarters in the downtown area of the Neivana city located at Calle 3 No. 06-01-03, facilities where it will provide emergency services, hospitalization, intensive care unit, surgery, tomography, ultrasound and clinical laboratory to bring health services closer to more people in the capital of Huilense with the highest technology and human warmth.
