It is very restless internally at Ajax, Wilfred Genee reports in Veronica Offside. According to the presenter, director of football affairs Sven Mislintat is at odds with the scouting department, which feels completely passed over by the German policymaker. “It was a tough fight,” says Genee.
Mislintat got hold of the key at Ajax in May. The German made no less than twelve purchases worth 108 million euros (excluding bonuses) and seems to have paid little attention to scouting reports that were ready in Amsterdam. “I heard that there was quite a heavy discussion on Friday between Mislintat and the scouting, who do not really agree,” said Genee.
Maurits Hendriks, who is employed as Chief Sports Officer, would have emphatically sided with Mislintat. “Mislintat has also been appointed a bit by Hendriks”, says Genee. The Supervisory Board, which supervises the management’s policy, left Mislintat almost completely free. Only the transfer of FK Krasnodar midfielder Eduard Spertsyan was blocked due to Russia’s war with Ukraine.
Genee happened to be in contact with the Supervisory Board of Ajax. “I ran into one of the members, Georgette Schlick. I asked if she was a bit satisfied with what is happening around the purchases. ‘We don’t deal with that as a Supervisory Board’, she said. I responded: ‘There have you have a feeling about it, don’t you?’ They didn’t really.”
