There are a total of 80 names on the list of candidates of the Farmer Citizen Movement. The provisional list of candidates was sent to members and made public on September 8. Three members protested: they did not agree on the position of a total of nine candidates, according to information seen by RTL News.
Change
For example, there was criticism from candidate MP Gerlof Roubos. The Brabander was not satisfied with his own place. Roubos was placed in 29th place, but wants to go to 15th place. Roubos believes it is important that the list of candidates is a good reflection of the Netherlands and believes that Brabant is underrepresented. Is he angry about the way things are going? “I’m not going to say anything about that. This is an internal matter. I don’t know where I ultimately stand on the list. I will find out on Saturday.”
The list of candidates will be officially presented to the members during a general membership meeting on Saturday.
More criticism
There was more criticism. Another BBB member who prefers to remain anonymous submitted a request to change the positions of seven candidates on the list. He wanted some candidates higher on the list, and other candidates lower. These requests were also initially rejected. The member then says: “I am not going to comment on this.”
There were also comments on the position of 26-year-old candidate Alexander Hendriks. Hendriks is a faction employee and young. Because of his young age, a request came in to put him in a higher position. “This will ensure that the young voice is better heard and that we do justice to the hundreds of thousands of BBB-voting young people.”
Management admits mistake
The party leadership acknowledges that they should have taken the criticism of the list more seriously. “We should have talked to the applicants earlier and applied the human touch,” says party chairman Erik Stegink on behalf of the board. On Saturday, the board will also apologize to members about this error.
By the way, there is not only a fuss about the candidate list at the BBB.
ChristianUnion
Members of the Christian Union also protested. Local Christian Union politicians and hundreds of members rebelled against Stieneke van der Graaf’s place. The most experienced Member of Parliament ended up in an unelectable ninth place. This angered members; they want the MP to move from ninth to fifth place on the candidate list, to the dissatisfaction of the party board.
