Interest Grows in 23-Year-Old Right-Back Salim Diakité as Sturm Graz Joins the Hunt

In addition to some Italian clubs, SK Sturm Graz are said to be interested in signing 23-year-old right-back Salim Diakité. Born in France, he currently plays for the Italian second division club Ternana Calcio.

Diakité moved to Italy from France at the age of 18 and played for Agnonese, Teramo and finally Ternana for two years. Year after year he worked his way up from the fourth to the second Italian performance class.

In the past season, the 186 cm tall right-back clearly played his best season and Ternana managed to stay up in the league. In two seasons he made 52 appearances for the small club, in which he scored one goal. The Malian-born Frenchman also recently decided that he also wants to appear for the national team of Mali. However, the debut is still to come.

In addition to Sturm Graz, three Italian clubs are said to be interested in signing Diakités: Palermo and Serie A relegated Cremonese, as well as first division club Hellas Verona – who stayed in the league thanks to the relegation. His contract with Ternana Calcio runs for two more years.

Sturm Graz is actively looking for a right-back. The names that are currently emerging will probably only be a few of many that appear in Andreas Schicker’s “shadow team”. Only a few days ago, for example, interest in the Slovenian U21 team defender Nejc Ajhmajer became public. Diakité is now another variable on Sturm’s possible list of newcomers.
