“Interdisciplinary theater show ‘mazes’ raises funds for Community Artistic Sancocho Festival 2023”

mazesan interdisciplinary theater show created in 2018 as a result of the experiences lived after the earthquakes in Mexico from a year earlier, and which has been adapting to the times and spaces to talk about the obstacles and contingencies of life that are experienced individually and collectively, will offer three performances at the Lola Cueto Theater. The purpose is to raise funds for his next presentation at the Community Artistic Sancocho Festival 2023.

mazes arose from the need to meet with various audiences outside the institutional and commercial cultural circuits, in addition to generating, through self-management and collective creation, the conditions to establish sensitive communication with other people. The play, produced by the Teatro Para La Vida Misma group, was invited to be staged at the meeting that has been taking place for six years in El Remanso, Pereira, Colombia.

In a press release it is indicated that his functions will be on August 11, 12 and 13 in the Estrecha Room, in Pereira, Colombia, and on August 5 and 6 at the Sancocho Festival, considered a space for cultural development and community, open to collaboration and enjoyment of life in a neighborhood made up mostly of people displaced by the armed conflict in Colombia. Thus, the opportunity arises for mazes Transmute and communicate with the Colombian public, finding the feelings that identify and unite us, through traditional music, analogous experiences, parallel stories and common dreams.

With the performances of Erándeni Yáñez and Rafael Sandoval Roquet, who continue the path of this piece created collectively alongside Aleida Gutiérrez Gándara and Laura Ruíz, a journey is undertaken like those narrated in legends and myths, with monsters and heroes. It takes place especially when there are great changes in people and the environment, as happened with the covid-19 pandemic or the earthquakes in Mexico in 2017. With reference to the Greek myth about the labyrinth of the minotaur, this work has a sensitive dialogue with the public about the search for meaning and the different ways to find it.

in 2018 The work had an itinerant season through different cultural spaces in Mexico City, such as the Teatro Lúcido, in Santa María la Ribera or the Foro Elefante, in the Hidalgo neighborhood of the Tlalpan mayor’s office. He also had performances abroad, at Theater im Kino, in Berlin. That same year, he participated in the No More Walls Festival, an independent cultural event replicated in different countries with the aim of raising awareness and making visible the situation of migrants. In 2019 it was presented in popular neighborhoods and neighborhoods of Iztapalapa, Álvaro Obregón, Milpa Alta and Tláhuac as part of the CDMX PILARES program.

After the break in face-to-face activities, mazes He returned with functions in independent spaces during 2022, such as in Clandestina, Espacio de Encuentros, also located in Santa María la Ribera.
