Inter Milan have extended their Serie A lead. In the Derbi Derby della Madonnina the team of Antonio Conte defeated the table runners-up AC Milan 3-0 (1-0).
The leader of the standings was led by double goal scorer Lautaro Martinez (5th / 57th) and Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian scored the final score (66th), had also prepared the early lead strongly – and thus scored effective goals in the permanent duel with superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede on the side of the AC was heavily served and thus remained mostly ineffective, after 75 minutes he was replaced.
Milan had strong phases, especially towards the end of the first and the beginning of the second half, but Ibrahimovic also failed repeatedly because of the strong Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.
The encounter was accompanied by police operations in front of the stadium. To enforce the corona restrictions, the security forces had to dissolve a collection of around 5000 peaceful Tifosi from both camps.
The next comparison between “Ibra” and Lukaku was eagerly awaited, because the last one was tough: During the cup match between AC and Inter (1: 2) at the end of January, Ibrahimovic described the Belgian as a “little donkey” and it came to a heated battle of words and scuffles. Both players were then suspended for a cup game, but the association’s internal investigations are still ongoing.
AC Milan were last champions in 2011
Inter’s distance to pursuers Milan is now four points (53:49), the third AS Roma (43) is still playing at Benevento Calcio late in the evening. After nine championship titles in a row for Juventus Turin, the Scudetto should go back to Lombardy this year, the AC was last champion in 2011, Inter in 2010.
For the first time in ten years, the two major Milan clubs are fighting each other for the title. This is also possible because both are now run by investors from China, who each pump sums in the three-digit million range into the clubs.
Defending champions Juventus have two games less, but are eleven points behind the leaders. On Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. will meet Crotone at the bottom.
