Laga Inter Milan vs Sassuolo postponed this week, following the storm COVID-19 that engulfed the Nerazzurri squad. Coach Juventus Andrea Pirlo called Inter lucky to be able to rest longer.
A number of Inter players have been infected with the Corona virus this week. Starting from Samir Handanovic, Stefan de Vrij, to Matias Vecino. Even Danilo D’Ambrosio and director Beppe Marotta had already undergone independent isolation.
As a result, Inter’s training location was temporarily closed until Monday (22/3/2021). Unable to practice, Romelu Lukaku’s match against Sassuolo on Saturday (20/3) was postponed.
Inter will play again on April 3 against Bologna, right after the international break. Pirlo sees this as an opportunity to get close to Inter’s points in the standings.
Currently, La Beneamata is at the top with 65 points from 27 matches, 10 points ahead of Juventus who just played 26 times. If the Bianconeri beat Benevento in Serie A this weekend, the difference in points between the two teams will be reduced.
Even so, Pirlo also saw Inter benefiting from this delay. Because the Inter squad must isolate themselves, the players will not be released to their respective national teams during the international break.
This made Antonio Conte’s squad rest time longer. The risk of injury for defending the national team is reduced.
“It’s our duty to put pressure on Inter, because now we have the opportunity to close the gap in the table, and it all depends on us, “said Pirlo, quoted by the Italian Football.
“We have already asked about the information (Inter’s match has been postponed) and received it. Different things have been done in this case, when compared to other situations.”
“But it happened in a positive period for Inter. They can also hold their players and not send them to the national team. In this case, they are lucky,” explained the 41-year-old allenatore.
Juventus vs Benevento will take place at Allianz Stadium, Turin, Sunday (21/3) at 21.00 WIB.
