Inter Miami ends season with best record in MLS history

(Fort Lauderdale) Lionel Messi scored a hat trick in just the second half as Inter Miami defeated the New England Revolution 6-2 to finish the season with the best record in MLS history on Saturday .

Thanks to a harvest of 74 points, Inter Miami (22-4-8) beat the mark of the Revolution, who finished the 2021 season with 73 points.

The Florida team’s winning rate (.765) also constitutes a Garber circuit record. DC United (24-8) and the Los Angeles Galaxy (24-8) in 1998, LAFC (21-4-9) in 2019 and the Revolution (22-5-7) in 2021 all finished at ,750.

Inter Miami also tied the record of four defeats in a season which now belongs to eight MLS teams. Messi, who only played for 35 minutes and still scored three goals, finished the campaign with 20 goals and 16 assists in 19 games.

Suarez, who scored twice in the first half against the Revolution, scored 20 goals in his first season in MLS.

Inter Miami will play its first playoff match on Friday, facing the winner of the match between CF Montreal and Atlanta United on Tuesday.
