Inter Miami beat Nashville 2-0 to advance to the Quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup with goals from Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez.
The Florida team finished the series in less than 25 minutes with the two former Barcelona players and aims to be Monterrey’s rival in the next phase of the tournament, if Rayados qualifies.
Luis Suárez opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a pass from Messi, in a tight play due to a possible offside, which was able to avoid a three-finger definition from El Pistolero to make it 1-0 for Inter Miami.
Lionel Messi tried from the opening whistle to get his goal and the reward came in the 23rd minute with a cross shot inside the area to make it 2-0 and give the peace of mind of advancing in Concacaf.
The Argentine left the game in the 50th minute due to a muscle discomfort that he had experienced since the first 45 minutes. His replacement was Robert Taylor, who in 13 minutes made it 3-0 with a pass from Suárez.
Nashville had scored in the final stretch of the match, but the goal was disallowed for offside after an extensive VAR review. At 93′ the visiting team scored the goal thanks to Sam Surridge.
The scoreboard did not move further and Inter Miami advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup, where the winner of Monterrey or Cincinnati awaits.
