Interviewed on the sidelines of the presentation event of Marco Bellinazzo’s new book, ‘The new wars of football‘, the managing director of Inter Beppe Marotta (READ HERE all his statements) also answered some questions regarding the renewals of the players expiring in 2023. In particular, it has been said optimistic about Skriniar, while the same cannot be said about others who experience the same situation as the Slovak: “everyone deserves to be reconfirmed but company logic does not allow us to do so” – he has declared. In fact, there are 9 players whose contracts expire in June 2023, some of whom have a considerable weight in the balance sheet. Let’s see them case by case.
DZEKO MAKES EVERYONE AGREE – The only one, besides Skriniar, who is almost certain to stay is Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian forward has shown, with words and goals, that he wants to stay and that he can still give so much to the cause of Inzaghi. The coach himself welcomes his renewal and Marotta seems willing to please him, on the condition that a salary which today is around 5 million euros is significantly cutthe highest among the expiring players.
LIBERO AND HANDANOVIC, DUE TO LEADERSHIP IN CRISIS – After Dzeko comes De Vrij, with over 4 million euros. Unlike the Bosnian, however, his performances have been declining for some time and he no longer seems to be the player who arrived on a free transfer from Lazio. Despite this, iHis free transfer card and his experience are still coveted by many clubs, including Antonio Conte’s Tottenhamwho had already coached him at Inter. Samir Handanovichinstead, seems to have even lost ownership in favor of Onana. Assuming he wants to be vice-Onana again next season, if he wants to stay longer he will have to reduce a salary that is between 2.5 and 3 million euros per season, definitely too many for a second goalkeeper.
CERBI, DARMIAN AND THE OTHERS – Also D’Ambrogio and Darmiannow two flags of the club, will expire in June. Both earn 2 million euros, affordable figures, but which do not keep them safe, given that from essential elements of Conte’s Inter they are turning into increasingly blunt arrows in Inzaghi’s version. There will probably be room for only one of the two and the indications for this first part of the season seem to lean towards Darmian (10 appearances in the league against the 4 of the department mate). Acerbi and Gagliardini earn half a million lessbut even in this case, there will hardly be room for both, even they play in different roles: sand the former Lazio defender is an Inzaghi loyalist and is becoming more and more useful as a first replacement in defense, Gagliardini is an increasingly less used midfield joker (only five appearances in the league, two of which as a starter). Finally, the contracts of will also expire Cordaz and Dalberttwo players completely on the sidelines of the project.
There is one fact that should make you think: nearly all of the players due are defenders And letting them leave would mean dismantling a department almost in its entirety. Probably in some cases they will try to find the right balance, meeting each other, but who knows if Marotta is not thinking, also considering the high average age, that the unbreakable wall built over the years does not need a major restyling.
