Inter-Fiorentina 4-0 REPORT and Turin-Genoa 1-0 REPORT, for the third day of the Serie A football championship.
Milan calls, theInter he replies, towards a derby that will already be able to say a lot about the season of the two Milanese. Because after the Rossoneri’s success at Roma, Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri also had a showdown, who knocked down a four-of-a-kind at the San Siro Fiorentina tired from the struggles of the cup, finding the third victory in the first three days of the championship and reaching the Milan rivals at the top of the standings with full points. A start that Inter hadn’t even had since 2019/20, when Lautaro had just won the title with the arrival of Antonio Conte close to Romelu Lukaku in attack: today, however, the Argentine is the captain and driving force behind the Nerazzurri, flanked by a Thuram who this time also combines his first goal in Serie A with yet another convincing performance, topped off with an assist and a penalty earned. As long as they had enough, Fiorentina managed to keep up with the Nerazzurri, with an attitude of personality, pressing and high defence: however, as soon as the petrol ran out in the legs of the Italian team, Inzaghi’s men showed themselves to be ruthless, managing also to close the third game in a row without conceding goals. This is also thanks to a more careful attitude towards defending than offending, especially at the start of the match. An intelligent tactical choice, considering that the Nerazzurri managed to limit the Viola’s vivacity in attack as long as the legs of Nico Gonzalez and his teammates held up. The first signs of danger for Fiorentina come from a high right foot from Thuram, particularly warlike in the opposing area. Shortly afterwards, in fact, the Frenchman broke the deadlock with a diving header from Dimarco’s cross with the rev counter, finding the first goal for the Nerazzurri. With the disadvantage taken over, the Viola lose their measure and the hosts create series of chances to double: Thuram fails to deflect two crosses from Bastoni and Dumfries from a stone’s throw away, then Christensen replies present by rejecting two venomous shots from Bastoni and Calhanoglu. Script that didn’t change in the second half, when the Nerazzurri restarted the attack so much so that Dumfries immediately hit the post with a diagonal right footed shot. Fiorentina made the mistake of finding themselves looking for an equalizer, but Inter immediately punished the opponent’s idea, with a quick restart that led Thuram to serve Lautaro Martinez and the Inter captain doubled by beating Christensen on the way out. Simone Inzaghi’s men don’t stop and the protagonist is always the same, because after a short clearance from a shot by Dimarco Christensen he extends Thuram out and Calhanoglu makes it 3-0 from the spot. The Frenchman would also have the ball for the 4-0, but kicked wide following an assist from Bastoni. Fiorentina tries to shake things up with a couple of chances from Sottil who finds Sommer attentive, but Inter is in one of those evenings in which he is relentless, also because the reserves are as effective as the owners: Cuadrado in fact enters and serves Lautaro Martinez who anticipates Milenkovic by finding four-of-a-kind and a personal brace, the fifth goal in the first three days of the championship as well as the 107th with the Nerazzurri shirt which allows him to enter the top 10 all time among Inter scorers. The finish is pure academia, just enough for San Siro to already launch the assault on Milan towards the derby after returning from the break for the national teams.
At the last second and with a magic of Radonjic, the Torino can beat the Genoa and to find the first victory in the championship. The Serbian, who took over in the second half, invents the 1-0 goal that knocks the Griffin out: the grenades are back to cheering in front of their fans, it hadn’t happened since 6 March. Juric immediately launches Zapata, then leaves Ilic and Radonjic on the bench to raise Ricci on the front line with Vlasic and deploy the midfield duo Tameze-Linetty. “With a great choice you have shown that with a grenade heart you don’t make a market, thanks Buongiorno” is the banner that the Maratona dedicates to the canterano who rejected Atalanta. Gilardino confirms the eleven who have conquered the Capital on the Lazio side, with Retegui as the only striker supported by Malinovskyi and Gudmundsson. The first attempt on goal is from Zapata, good at turning a corner from Linetty but the ball is simple for Martinez. Other rings, then, are not seen, with Toro holding ball possession in hand but unable to break through, also because Genoa closes very well. Tameze and Linetty don’t have the time and qualities to set up, Ricci struggles in the unprecedented role of attacking midfielder and so Zapata doesn’t receive playable balls. Gilardino’s team is orderly, risking nothing and tries with a shot from distance by Retegui blocked by Milinkovic-Savic. Before the end of the first half, Ricci’s shot from outside the area was still seen, with Martinez crumpling. Juric and Gilardino decide not to make changes during the break, but little or nothing happens at the start of the second half. Thorsby and Kutlu enter the Rossoblu in place of Strootman and Malinovskyi, the Croatian waits until the 64th minute for a triple substitution: Radonjic, Seck and Pellegri in, Tameze, Zapata and the injured Vlasic out. There’s also room for Ilic, but Toro still doesn’t break through and we’re heading towards 0-0. It is a challenge that can only be unlocked with the singles play, if Radonjic invents it in the 94th minute: Ilic’s opening is with the rev counter, the 10 grenade overtakes Hefti and from an almost impossible position finds the three-point wildcard. Juric’s bench explodes in a liberating exultation, then he trembles at the last second with Gudmundsson’s shot that goes just wide. Toro finds its first victory, but during the break they will have to work on the construction phase because the team almost never manages to make itself dangerous. Genoa goes to the break with three points from three games, not bad considering the fiery calendar between Fiorentina, Lazio and the grenade.
