Intentionally deleting “Democratization Movement 5 18” in the revised 2022 curriculum? That’s not true – here’s the truth | news

The Education Ministry said: “The report that the government intentionally deleted ‘Democratization Movement 5 18’ from the revised 2022 curriculum is not true.”

[교육부 설명]

□ The report that the government intentionally deleted “Democratization Movement 5 18” from the revised 2022 curriculum is not true.

ㅇ In the 2022 revised curriculum, since the “learning element” element was omitted from all subjects, the descriptions of individual and specific historical events, including the “5 18 Democratization Movement”, were minimized in the history curriculum.

ㅇ The policy research team, which was formed in December 2021 and developed the history curriculum, also reduced the description of specific historical events (terms) with this purpose.

□ Names of specific historical events have been omitted, but like the current curriculum, the 2022 revised curriculum has developed relevant achievement standards so that students can learn the process of the democratization movement from the April 19 Revolution to the Democratic Uprising of June.

ㅇ In order to ensure that the omitted “learning elements” are described in the textbook development stage, we will actively examine the reflection of the contents in future textbook compilation standards.
