Intensive exchange between the districts of Main-Tauber and Würzburg

Representatives of the administrative districts of Würzburg and Main-Tauber meet regularly for cross-border and cross-regional exchanges. Another meeting recently took place in Giebelstadt in the Würzburg district.

Topics were local public transport, bike path expansion, cell phone coverage and the situation regarding the spread of the corona virus. The district office in the Main-Tauber district provides information on this in a press release.

It is a good tradition between the two counties to meet regularly for an exchange. District Administrator Eberhard Nuß from Würzburg and District Administrator Reinhard Frank from the Main-Tauber district thanked in advance for their active participation.

Head of Department Jochen Müssig from the Main-Tauber district informed about the situation of the Frankenbahn, the expansion of the stops, the frequency of the regional train and the annoyance about train cancellations in the area of the regional train express.

Nothing new in the school transport tariffs

This topic was discussed intensively. The mayor Björn Jungbauer from Kirchheim in Lower Franconia and Erwin Gramlich from Bütthard asked to push for an improvement. “It cannot be that rail users buy a season ticket and then do not drive the trains,” was their tenor.

It was also criticized that there was nothing new in the school traffic between Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg in terms of tariffs. Frank assured that the topic would be brought up again at the Rhein-Neckar transport association.

Idly campaigned for further involvement of Bavarian cities and municipalities in the “NightLife Shuttle” bus offer. Fortunately, almost all Bavarian towns and cities have joined the project since the previous promotion.

In the meantime, Giebelstadt, Kist, Holzkirchen / Wüstenzell, Uettingen and Waldbüttelbrunn belong to the community. There are still Reichenberg, Geroldshausen and Höchberg. “In the interest of our youth, we appeal to join,” said Müssig.

Cycle route from Tauberbischofsheim to Kist

The cycle path from Tauberbischofsheim to Kist in the Würzburg district was also discussed. Markus Metz from the district road construction office in the Main-Tauber district stated that the cycle path in Baden-Württemberg belongs to the “RadNetz BW”. As a result, the state completely financed the bike path construction.

As soon as the planning was completed, construction could begin in 2021. Kist Mayor Volker Faulhaber added that his community had applied for funding for their district. The cycle path had to be built quickly and then continued from Kist to Würzburg.

The participants also spoke about the bike paths from Werbach to Böttigheim and Neubrunn to Wertheim. Planning for the route from Neubrunn to Wertheim will be completed this year. Construction could begin in 2021, Metz said.

Advertising Mayor Ottmar Dürr appealed that funding had to be made available for the cycle path from Werbach to Böttigheim. The share of around 200,000 euros attributable to Werbach could not be shouldered by the municipality. In principle, the district councilors Nuss and Frank welcomed the initiatives to advance cycle paths.

Mobile communications in the Main-Tauber district

Mobile phone coverage in the Main-Tauber district was another point of the meeting. Müssig reported on the expansion plans of Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefonica. He also went into the American company ATC, which creates cell towers and thus a passive infrastructure on its own.

The training exchange “Upper Taubertal” is a good example of cross-country and cross-regional cooperation. The stock exchange changes annually between the cities of Creglingen, Niederstetten, Röttingen and Weikersheim. However, the event had to be canceled this year due to the corona virus.

The subject of sewage sludge utilization was raised by Wertheim’s Mayor Markus Herrera Torrez. This is also about inter-municipal cooperation. At present there is still an agreement until the end of 2022. Frank confirmed that the further procedure for the treatment of sewage sludge in the Main-Tauber district had to be clarified.

Improve fire department alarms

“It is therefore time to agree on a new concept,” said Herrera Torrez. In addition, Nuss stated that the construction of a third furnace line at the waste management association in Würzburg would not be realized. He sees a collaboration with the community power plant in Schweinfurt as more effective.

The exchange continued with the alarming of fire departments across countries and counties. The participants agreed that the district fire council from Würzburg and the district fire chief from the Main-Tauber district would coordinate this with the control centers. In any case, the alarm must be improved.

In the end, both sides exchanged their approaches due to the corona virus. Both in the administrative district of Würzburg and in the administrative district of Main-Tauber-Kreis, staff departments operating under the leadership of the health authorities have been established. There are also citizen phones, as their requests would increase. The exchange should also take place across countries and counties here, Nuss and Frank assured.

Frank thanked his Würzburg colleague Nuss for the good neighborly coexistence over many years. “The meetings and our encounters were always characterized by mutual appreciation,” said Frank. He wished Nuss all the best for the time ahead. Nuss was no longer running for election and will therefore leave office on April 30.
