Tension prevailed earlier at the Polytechnic in Exarchia during an event for the “Researcher’s Night”.
The Minister of Transport Christos Staikouras was invited and attended the event.
Before the start of the event, a group of people gathered at the gate of the Polytechnic from Stournari Street, with the police making 22 arrests.
The event started with the presence of Mr. Staikouras, however after a while a group of people managed to arrive inside the event hall shouting slogans and throwing trikes.
The minister left for security reasons and the event was called off.
Strong police forces rushed to the scene and entered the Polytechnic and proceeded with three more arrests.

For their part, the police say:
“In the afternoon today, Friday September 27, 2024, the planned event “Researcher’s Night” would take place in the Averof building of the National Technical University in the center of Athens, with honored guests and free entry for teaching staff and students.
The Greek Police, in order to ensure the event in question, took the necessary order and security measures, outside and around the building.
Shortly after the start of the event, people entered the building and verbally assaulted and threw objects at the guests, as a result of which the Rector’s Authorities informed the Greek Police in order to intervene.
Greek Police immediately entered the venue and safely removed the guests, while 22 arrests have been made so far.
A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Sub-Directorate of State Security of the Attica Security Directorate”.
