Sukabumi – The Sukabumi City Government through the Health Service will once again intensify the administration of the HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine for grade 5 elementary school girls. In the previous year, vaccine administration was considered less than optimal because it was constrained by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was conveyed by the Head of the P2P Division of the Sukabumi City Health Service, drg. Wita Darmawanti. He said the HPV vaccine would be given at the same time as the Children’s National Immunization Month (Bias).
“During the pandemic, we had not carried out school children’s immunizations as perfectly as in previous years. Before COVID-19, we provided this Bias service. hampered so that our immunization coverage is low,” said Wita to the media crew, Thursday (3/8/2023).
“There is a fear that if the immunization coverage is low, some may not even be achieved. If that’s the case, our risk is an outbreak (extraordinary event) of disease (even though) it can be prevented through immunization,” he continued.
He continued, immunization and the HPV vaccine are planned to be given to school children in grades 1, 2 and 5. Grades 1 and 2 students are given measles rubella, diphtheria and tetanus vaccines, while grade 5 students are added with the HPV vaccine. The administration of the HPV vaccine is the first time it has been held in Sukabumi City.
“For grade 5 plus the HPV or Human Papilloma Virus, that’s what has just been done in Sukabumi City, if in other cities it has been carried out starting in 2016,” he said.
According to him, the administration of the vaccine referred to the SKB of 4 Ministers, namely the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Religion, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Health. He asked that teachers and mothers convey the importance of vaccination or immunization for children.
“Then apart from that, we also hope that the target will be achieved, yes, an increase compared to previous years, even though in 2022 it has actually started to increase compared to 2020 2021. The figure is above 90 percent but it is also quite difficult if you want 100 percent,” he closed.
