Intense Summer Storm and High Winds Expected in Western France

The west of France is about to experience a summer storm. Very intense winds are expected in the regions bordering the English Channel on Tuesday; they will peak on Wednesday. The reason: a depression that crosses the south of England and will cause strong gusts in the northwest of the country, as well as heavy rains north of the Seine. Gusts, however, should not exceed 70 to 90 km / h inland, and 90 to 100 km / h near the coast.

Meteo France indicates that “given the atypical character of such a phenomenon in a summer context and depending on the evolution of the forecasts, a passage in orange vigilance is not completely excluded on certain coastal departments, between Morbihan and Pas-de -Calais”. In this context, camping summer camps on the north coast have been canceled, according to France Bleu Armorique.

“Risk of submersion”

These strong winds will also generate strong waves on the Atlantic coast and the coasts of the Channel, and a passage in orange vigilance is, there too, not excluded from the department of the Channel to that of Morbihan.

According Weather Consult, waves of around eight meters are expected “over the western Channel, and one to four meters elsewhere”. Météo France adds that “in a context of strong tidal coefficients, strong waves and an associated risk of submersion will threaten the western half of the Channel and the tip of Brittany for the high tide on Wednesday evening”.

The accumulations of rain collected in 48 hours may be significant (between 30 and 60 mm) from Nord-Pas-de-Calais to the Ardennes.
