Intense Road Traffic on Chemin Tamaya in Acajou: Residents Mobilize to Protest Dispute between Cacem and Real Estate Company

The wait is too long for the Chemin Tamaya Collective in Acajou au Lamentin. For 4 and a half years they have suffered from intense vehicle traffic near their house due to a dispute between Cacem and a promising real estate company. They will mobilize this afternoon (Monday October 16) from 5 p.m.

What was initially a peaceful path to access their property became a relief route for motorists who took the Vieux Chemin road behind the Acajou shopping center in Lamentin.

For 4 and a half years now, this road has been inaccessible due to a landslide linked to work undertaken along this route.

Road traffic was transferred to Chemin Tamaya, which was absolutely not intended for this purpose and to the great dismay of local residents.

This is what residents living around Chemin Tamaya say they are experiencing. They express their anger and dismay within a collective. They estimate that “at least 1,000 vehicles per hour travel near their homes during peak hours, or 10 times more than before.”

For 4 and a half years, they have claimed to have suffered from noise pollution which they recorded at a level of 87 dB.far exceeding the levels set by the World Health Organization (WHO)”. They believe they are at the heart of a “health scandal”.

We are in a phase of power struggle, we do not understand why the developer of the land is refusing intervention from Cacem, we want to send him a message of anger as well as to the court which must rule on this dispute.

The collective, with around a hundred members, will be mobilized this afternoon (Monday October 16) for 3 hours between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. This time they are the ones who will bother motorists by disrupting the flow of vehicles on Chemin Tamaya.

They hope that their mobilization will have repercussions during the court hearing which will soon pit Cacem against the developer at the origin of the dispute.
