Ukraine: Russian army shelled more than 100 settlements in a single day, the most intense offensive in 2023
(AFP, Kyiv, 1st) Ukraine said today that Russia had shelled more than 100 settlements in the past 24 hours, marking the most intense Russian offensive this year.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko posted on social media: “118 settlements in 10 regions have been attacked by enemy fire in the past 24 hours, setting a record for the highest number of cities and villages attacked this year.”
Local officials said the wave of dark-night shelling killed one person each in Kharkiv and Kherson regions.
At the same time, Russia also sent drones to carry out night strikes, causing a fire at an oil refinery in the central industrial city of Kremenchuk.
Kyiv and Western allies are worried that Moscow will once again escalate its offensive against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure before the onset of winter, following last year’s announcement.
Serhiy Lysak, the governor of Dnipropetrovsk region, said today that a Russian drone killed one person and injured four others in the southern city of Nikopol.
