Intense images: this is how Mark Gillis was brutally attacked and mistreated

Mark Gillis, the son of ‘Massa is Kassa’ protagonist Peter Gillis, was brutally robbed at his chalet at the Prinsenmeer holiday park in Ommel last November. Three men waited for him in the middle of the night, beat him and ransacked his house. This was all recorded on surveillance images, which can be seen in Bureau Brabant on Monday.

These are intense images, which the police share from that night of November 6 to 7. It can be seen how Gillis is completely surprised by the three after an evening of work when he arrives at his chalet.

The moment he puts his key in the lock of the front door, he is attacked by the first man. He tries to overpower him with pepper spray. Soon the second and third men also come running, hitting Gillis in the neck and stomach with a taser. Meanwhile, he is kicked in the head and body. As soon as the door is open, the three of the robbers pull him in.

‘Cooperate or I will stab you’
There they tie up Gillis with tie wraps and duct tape. When he resists, he is threatened by one of the men. “Cooperate or I’ll stab you.” Meanwhile, the other robbers are looking for the safe, which turns out not to be there. They turn everything upside down and eventually snatch sunglasses, a wallet and some watches. After half an hour the men leave again.

The police now know who it is of one of the robbers, thanks to a DNA match. He is, however, still wanted, like the other men. The police hopes that the following descriptions will lead to useful tips:

  • Offender 1: Wearing a light-colored quilted jacket and hooded cap.
  • Perpetrator 2: Has a slim figure, wore a black jacket with a hooded sweater underneath and dark sneakers.
  • Perpetrator 3: Has a plump figure, wore a quilted camouflage print jacket, ripped jeans, and hiking boots underneath.

Possible fourth perpetrator
In addition, a flashing light can be seen on the surveillance images in the distance. That could mean that someone else was involved in the robbery.

And the police saw some suspicious things in the run-up to the robbery. In the morning of November 4, two men walk past Gillis’ chalet. The duo seem particularly interested in Gillis’ home. The following evening, on November 5, exactly the same thing happened. Even then two men walk past the chalet. They even look through the hedge to get a good picture.

On the day of the robbery itself, something remarkable happens. A white van then drives several laps around the holiday park, especially near Gillis’ chalet. The police are looking for its occupants.

mental blow
Gillis was left with a black eye from the heist. It was also quite a blow mentally. “As soon as the sun goes down, you think about it. And when I come home late at night after work, it all comes back too.” Gillis still receives victim support. “That’s talk, talk, talk. It benefits me a lot.”
