Intel’s New APO Game Performance Improvement Function: Only Available for 14th Generation and Up

Recently, Intel launched a new APO (Application Performance Optimization) game performance adjustment function, which can greatly improve game performance. Although there are currently very few supported games, the improvement is still impressive. If there are more games in the future, players will be able to Enjoy better performance for free. But there is bad news here. Intel has confirmed that this new feature will not be devolved to the 12th and 13th generation CPU processors, which means that it can only be enjoyed by the 14th generation and later.

Although it has the same architecture as the 14th generation CPU, Intel’s latest APO game performance improvement function definitely does not support the 12th and 13th generations.

Recently, the foreign YouTube channel HardwareUnboxed measured the latest function of Intel Application Performance Optimization. From the measured data of the game “Metro Exodus”, we can see that when APO is turned on, the average FPS and less than 1% FPS are both. The improvement is quite large:

However, “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Siege” (Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Siege) only has 1080p which is more obvious, while 1440p and 4K are fine. The processors used in this test are all i9-14900K:

Carefully observing the clock changes of E-core, we can find that when APO is turned on, the clock speed of E-core becomes higher. Therefore, it seems that the main way to improve game performance is through optimizing E-core:

You only need to turn on the optimization function of the software to get additional game performance, which is quite good:

The architecture of Intel’s 14th generation Raptor Lake Refresh processor is the same as that of the 13th generation. Compared with the 12th generation, the Gracemotn E-core architecture is also the same, but the P-core is different. If it is just to simply optimize the E-core, then Logically speaking, this new APO feature should also be available to 13th and 12th generation players.

Unfortunately, HardwareUnboxed has confirmed with Intel that APO has no plans to promote it to the previous generation of products, so it is currently exclusive to Intel’s 14th generation processors. It is worth noting that Intel APO seems to be only available to some14th SKUlike the upcoming non-K series processors may not have:

Therefore, if you want to use the latest features, you can only enjoy them by upgrading to the latest 14th generation, and you must also pay attention to the model number.
