The 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh desktop CPUs are expected to further improve speed compared to the 13th Gen Raptor Lake.
MLID exposed new details about the 14th generation Raptor Lake Refresh desktop CPU series, which he said is expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2023 and will be supported by the existing LGA 1700 platform. The product will have desktop S and mobile HX versions, and will sit alongside the Meteor Lake-P and Meteor Lake-M series.
According to rumors, the Raptor Lake Refresh desktop CPU series will not have more than 8+16 core configurations, but it is expected to adopt some new models, mainly 6+8 and 2+8 model configurations, which can be used as Core i5 and Core i3 design. These may or may not be the actual released models.
The most important thing mentioned in the leak is that Intel will once again focus on increasing the speed of its chips. The top-of-the-line Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs are said to boost up to 6.2GHz, and there’s also the possibility of a higher-frequency version with a frequency of up to 6.5GHz. The 6.2GHz speed will be a 7% increase over the Core i9-13900K, which peaks at 5.8GHz, and a 3% increase over the 13900KS, which peaks at 6.0GHz.
It remains to be seen whether this is a special KS version of the chip and whether there is still a standard part of the TB 3.0 frequency. Higher frequencies may allow Intel to get close to AMD’s Ryzen 7000X3D chips, but at the cost of higher power.
