Intel vs AMD CPU Efficiency: Benchmarking Idle Performance of Arrow Lake and Ryzen 7000 Series for Workstation Use

For you @Thomas HochstenbachArrow Lake Tweakers Benchmark Team, I’m already making a wishlist for the upcoming Arrow Lake benchmark, so we can specify our specific wishes here.

I would like to know the difference myself lazy spending want to know between the i7 and i9 Intel 14e, 13e, 12e K (7nm) variants and the new Intel Core Ultra 245K, 265K and 285K (3nm) variants, and how they compare to AMD 9700X 9950X the idle state, with all cores say 0~2%.

This way we can see if these CPUs have become more efficient not only under load, but also during idle use. And not just under a full load of theoretical criteria. Because I estimate that in business environments the workstation only runs 10% of the time, right before the deadline, under full load, rendering, compiling, zipping or raiding, loading thousands of RAW files and saving them by standard image as JPG, Encoding and decoding AES or encryption and decryption, Windows Bitlocker, rendering time Premiere Pro etc.

Because I think the i7 and i9 CPUS in daily workstations are in an idle state 90% of the time, so 0-2% CPU load, and although economy is often tested at load (the maximum power in hundreds of Watts), I think, and I certainly know more about our professional office users, especially the other 90% of the time when the CPU is loaded , but on, ready for main work, just as interesting or even more interesting because that is where 90% of all energy costs go to.

It may also be interesting to explain something about thread management, how AMD 9950X vs Intel 285K handles threads in Windows, so do both CPUs share internal functions equally smartly or does AMD’s split-CCD have advantages or disadvantages compared to Intel’s P+E concept in 2024.

Thanks from me and all work tools/business productivity tweakers!
