Big discounts on Intel processors are not what we see day after day, but because when they do appear, it attracts attention. According to Tom’s Hardware, the last-generation Intel processors – Coffee Lake-S Refresh – have dropped significantly in American retail.
It is reported that last year’s flagship Core i9-9900K (8 cores, 16 threads, up to 5.0 GHz) dropped from the recommended $ 488-499 to a much lower $ 435. In turn, the processor Core i7-9700K (8 cores, 8 threads, up to 4.9 GHz) fell from $ 374-385 to a much more interesting $ 339. Finally, the six-core Core i5-9600K can now be purchased for $ 195, while its MSRP was $ 263.
A noticeable decrease in prices was noticed at once in several large stores (Amazon, Newegg, etc.), and our colleagues turned directly to Intel for comments, to which they received the following response: “Promotional price cuts are one way to work with partners to continue to support strong market demand for high-performance processors in the DIY segment».

In other words, the observed price reduction is official, and the initiative in this case comes from Intel itself. This happens very rarely, because usually the company’s processors of previous generations sell well even without various incentives. Unfortunately, Intel did not specify how long the promotion will last or for which regions it will be relevant.
Meanwhile, the echoes of price reductions can be observed in Russia. The price of representatives of the Intel Coffee Lake-S Refresh family in some domestic stores has indeed become lower, and this suggests that in the foreseeable future we will see discounts in the largest federal retail chains. At the moment, the situation with prices for individual Coffee Lake-S Refresh processors in Russia is as follows (data from Yandex.Market):
- Core i5-9600K average price 19 thousand, but there are offers for 15 thousand.
- Core i7-9700K average price is 31 thousand, but there are offers for 24 thousand.
- Core i9-9900K average price 39 thousand, but there are proposals for 31 thousand.
