Intel reveals details about new European chip factory on Tuesday – Computer – News

Intel will announce the location of its new European chip factory on Tuesday, March 15. The company makes this known on its website. The chipmaker also shares few details. Various media say that the chip factory will be located in Magdeburg, Germany.

Intel will announce the chip factory on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. Dutch time. it does during a press conference broadcast live on Intel’s website. The company says Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger will provide details on “Intel’s latest plans for R&D and production of semiconductors in Europe” during the press conference.

The American chip giant has already indicated that it will build a new factory in Europe. The company is doing so as part of its IDM 2.0 business strategy, which also means will produce chips for other companies† Previously, Intel only made chips for its own products. The company previously indicated that it was considering various locations for its new European chip factory, including the Benelux. However, according to various media, Intel ultimately opted for the German Magdeburg.

Separately, Intel would also like to invest in chip locations in other EU countries. Italy, for example, would put 4 billion euros in the chip sector, writes Reuters† Some of it can be offered as a grant to Intel, as an incentive to build a packaging factory in that countryFrance is also said to be in talks with Intel for the construction of an R&D center, Bloomberg wrote late last year.

It is not surprising that Intel wants to invest in Europe. The continent itself also indicates that it wants to invest heavily in the chip sector, in order to become less dependent on production locations in other regions. The EU has therefore proposed a Chips Act that frees up €43 billion for the chip industry and relaxes the rules on state aid. About EUR 30 billion of this should come from individual Member States. That amount can therefore be used as a subsidy and Intel previously indicated that it wants eight billion euros in subsidy for the construction of a European ‘megachip factory’. Tweakers previously wrote background stories about Europe’s chipambities on de European Chips Act.
