Intel returns to the desktop video card market. Iris Xe will be intended for small and medium PCs

It’s been a long time since Intel’s last attempt to enter the GPU market, but today, the company launches its first desktop video cards. Iris Xe, originally referred to as ‘DG1’, are intended primarily for small and medium-sized corporate or personal use systems.

Intel is teaming up with Asus and other partners to sell these components to system integrators that will include them on “pre-made” systems. Like the Iris Xe Max graphics cards that debuted on laptops in October, these GPUs are not designed for gaming.

Intel sells them as a way to improve what is offered on regular PCs. It will come with better graphics, multi-display support and improved hardware acceleration for some codecs.

Iris Xe will include three 4K display outputs for multiple monitors, along with HDR support and AI capabilities. It will also support the decoding of AV1 content and will come with 4 GB of video memory and 80 execution units. Intel even offers Adaptive Sync support, so you’ll get a much smoother experience.
